FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS....

THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

How old are kittens when they can go to their homes?    11 - 16 weeks

How much does it cost to adopt a kitten?   Go to "Adopting" page for this information.

Is there a discount if someone wants to adopt two kittens together?   Not monetary, but those who adopt 2 kittens from the same litter can receive a complimentary 8 x 10 portrait of the kittens at one year of age.

What is involved in shipping a kitten?   The kitten receives a special veterinary exam within ten days of travel and a Health Certificate.  If required, the kitten receives a rabies vaccine.  Most kittens ship through Continental or Delta out of Detroit or Cleveland.  I always use the shortest non-stop flights when available.  These airlines offer special handling of pets through PetSafe and PetsFirst in the airport cargo departments.  Pets are hand-carried on the planes by agents and travel in a temperature controlled area.  While waiting to be picked up at the destination, they are safely kept in the cargo office.

Are kittens scared when being shipped?   My kittens are prepared for travel in comfortable roomy carriers and are usually very happy and relaxed when picked up by their new families.

Do you have a refund policy?   Yes....

Are your kittens accustomed to children?  Yes.  The kittens love children and adults and are marvelous family pets. ...to dogs?  No...but the feedback I have received from families is that the kitten and the dog are best friends within days to a week.

Does color or gender make a difference when seeking a kitten with low allergens?
I often hear that females are a better choice, however, I have had success with placements of both genders in homes with cat allergies.  Color is not a factor.

Are the kittens tested for diseases?  Yes...

Are kittens tested for HCM and PKD?  Kittens receive a thorough veterinary exam, but my veterinarians have found no reasons for further testing for these diseases.  They have not appeared in any of my kittens.

Can I see the pedigrees of the parents?  I have most of them on my computer and can easily send by email.

What is the cost of retired breeders?  It can vary from $500 to $800 and includes several supplies.

Can I visit the cats and kittens?  Yes, by appointment.  There is a fee that is refunded with the adoption of a kitten.

Is there an allergy test available?  Yes, I usually recommend a pillowcase to place with the cats for a few days to a week.   There is also a test available by sending saliva or fur to a laboratory for testing the level of Fel D1 protein.

Are the kittens litter-trained?  Yes, at a very young age of 4 to 5 weeks.

What do customers receive with the kittens?  A veterinary record, Kitty Care info, a blanky, toys and sometimes a carrier. Also, a 40% discount on a pet portrait.

Are the kittens vaccinated before they go to their homes?  Most kittens have received one or two FVRC (killed virus) vaccines before going to their homes.

Is it okay to have my kitten declawed?  The Siberian Cats at Nikarl Cattery are not declawed and the breeder does not condone the surgery.

When can kittens be spayed/neutered?  At no younger than 4 1/2  months for males...but 6 months for both genders is the recommended age by ethical veterinarians.  People who adopt my kittens are required to have their kittens spayed/neutered at no older than 6 1/2 months of age.  Males can be no younger than 5 months of age and females no younger than 6 months.  This is stated in my contract.
